The majority of Zimbabweans are of Bantu origin;about 78% belonging to the various Shona groups. Most Zimbabweans are literate due to the compulsory education system that has seen at least 94% of children receive some education and nearly 100% of them completing primary school and going to secondary school.

Around 70 % of Zimbabweans live in the rural areas with many slowly drifting to towns for greener pastures. There has been change in characteristics of house-holds and families.A lack of medical support on the other hand has made much of the populace vulnerable to disease and recurrent economic problems..Larger house-holds have fallen in number with an average household being 5 people from a previous 8 people.

Zimbabweans have been caught wanting in the field of emigrating either overseas or neighbouring countries. This has changed the components and structure of the populace.
