Zimbabwe is becoming more of a metropolitan country
with various nationals among its people.The Chinese,Indians ,Malaysians,Americans
and most Europeans have made the country their home.Thousands of people of regional
influence from Malawi ,Zambia , Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique have
also settled in Zimbabwe.You are rest assured to find Nigeria's,Ghanains among the
growing number of foreigners.
The country's main settlers are known as The Shona and The Ndebele.The Shona have
many variations under their belt!.The Ndebele remain the only peculiar with their
own language and culture which is borrowed from The Zulu of South Africa,their place
of origin.
The majority of Zimbabweans are of Bantu origin;about 78% belonging to the various
Shona groups.Most Zimbabweans are literate due to the compulsory education system
that has seen at least 94% of children receive some education and nearly 100% of
them completing primary school and going to secondary school.
Around 70 % of Zimbabweans live in the rural areas with many slowly drifting to towns
for greener pastures. There has been change in characteristics of house-holds and
families.A lack of medical support on the other hand has made much of the populace
vulnerable to disease and recurrent economic problems..Larger house-holds have fallen
in number with an average household being 5 people from a previous 8 people.
Zimbabweans have been caught wanting in the field of emigrating either overseas or
neighbouring countries.This has changed the components and structure of the populace. |
