Music has always played a large part in Zimbabwean
Culture often used to harmonise and knitting communities.lts customary to baptise
and bless gatherings with the rhythm of music.
Traditionally - music is produced by marimba,ngoma and ( piano-like)mbira.
Zimbabwean music of today is often a percussion of the above named musical tools.
As far as music goes - Zimbabweans have tuned globally to recite reggae,rap,soul
and other music forms.Zairean rumba is a darling of Zimbabwe.
Nevertheless,many musicians still cling to traditional orientation with Ndebele music
spilling accapella - like harmony,all spiced with clapping and clicking of tongues.The
Bhundu Boys and Rozalla Miller have put Zimbabwe on the international map having
had singles in the world top 40.Heavy weights such as Ambuya Stella Chiweshe,Oliver
Mutukudzi,Thomas Mapfumo and Simon Chimbetu have all raised the flag for Zimbabwe.
New comers to watch for include Charles Charamba,Tendeyi Viki and Special Meat 1.Zimbabwe
is interestingly becoming a gospel fanatic with the abundance of gospel albums on
the music shelves. |
